What could I do with an extra $500 a month?
Tuesday, December 27th, 2005I’m going to sell my Mini Cooper S.
This is not because I can’t afford it, but simply because I want to afford other things. In order to purchase it, I went through months of planning and budgeting and whatnot to decide that I could, indeed, afford a new car. I had all the factors, bills I owed and guesses as to how they’d change, credit card debts, how much I could accumulate for a downpayment, what size of loan I could get at what interest and over what period.
Now that I’ve paid a little less than half of it off, I think it’s time to let go. I love the car. I love driving it. However, the only time I spend driving it is usually to and from work, where I earn money to pay for it. Pay for the car that I don’t spend time with. At this rate, it’s nothing more than a glorified transport, and I think I can do just fine owning a less delicious transport, and using my money elsewhere.
When I say “using my money elsewhere,” I of course mean using it on things like Lasik, or travelling to Europe or Asia, maybe even using some to try my hand at saving. What a unique and unheralded concept.
